About Lola

Lola Miller is a vocalist-composer whose music grows out of a foundation of collaboration and expression of the human experience. Whether through an arrangement of a standard or a brand new piece, she reflects the present moment while reimagining old perspectives, both lyrically and musically. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed in venues ranging from the SFJAZZ Miner Auditorium to the Holywell Music room at Oxford. She is just as graceful writing for a jazz quintet as she is writing for a chamber orchestra. She was recently asked to arrange a Toccatina by Kapustin for world renowned pianist Yuja Wang for herself and jazz quintet. As a vocalist, her dynamic presence and intimately expressive voice thrives painting a story through an American songbook tune just as much as it does gliding above a band on a modern wordless melody. She has shared the stage with countless luminaries such as Warren Wolf, Matt Wilson, Edward Simon, and David Sanchez. 

During her time at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music earning her Bachelors of Music, she deepend her study of voice under Michael Mayo, Carmen Bradford, and Clairdee.  Her composition mentor Anthony Wilson helped her continue to explore her writing, including a culminating song cycle for voice, chamber orchestra, and rhythm section for her senior recital. She received a Bachelor's of Music in Jazz Composition in 2023. She was recently featured in the Jazz Education Networks annual Young Composer Showcase in January of 2021 for her piece Mind of Its Own and selected as a 2024 Mentee for Women In Jazz Organization (WIJO).

In addition to her gigging full time Lola has an extensive teaching resume including being an interim Level I Director for the San Francisco Girls Chorus and a guest musical teacher at the San Francisco Day School.
