ABOUT LOLA MILLER

Lola Miller is a composer, vocalist, and interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges contemporary jazz, chamber music, and experimental performance. Rooted in narrative and collaboration, their music often explores the tension between personal identity and collective experience—diving into the emotional landscapes of work, memory, and becoming.

Weaving together improvised music, songwriting, and theater, Lola creates work that blurs the line between sound and story. Their compositions often pair acoustic ensembles with electronics, live text, or visual media, constructing immersive environments where musical and human voices intertwine. Their music reflects an ongoing curiosity about community and connection: the balance of intimacy and distance in performance, the reclamation of misunderstood narratives, and the act of listening as an artistic and social practice.

A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition and Voice, Miller continues to evolve a language that is both deeply personal and expansively collaborative. Whether writing for chamber ensemble, jazz sextet, or multimedia installation, they approach composition as conversation: a meeting point of sound, story, and self.

Their recent project, HUSTLE, a multimedia contemporary jazz suite developed during a 2025 residency at the Vashon Island Artist Residency, investigates the realities and expectations of being a creative with a “day job.” Integrating live septet, photographic projection, and live triggered narrative interview clips, HUSTLE embodies Lola’s broader interest in blending narrative and sound, inviting the audience into vulnerability and reflection.
